Donavan Kamakani Albano

2025 Fellow, Indigenous Nations Poets

Donavan Kamakani Albano (māhū ʻŌiwi) is a poet from Kāneʻohe, Oʻahu, with genealogical ties to the island of Maui. Raised in Kalihilihiolaumiha, Kamakani holds an MA in Political Science (Indigenous Politics) from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. From the brackish waters of poetry and politics, he embraces pilina, consent, and desire to return to the māhū ʻŌiwi body that yearns to love its skin.
