Pōmaikaʻi Gushiken

Pōmaikaʻi Gushiken is a queer Kanaka ʻŌiwi and Uchinaanchu educator, writer, and scholar from Nānākuli, Hawaiʻi, living in Tovaangar (“Los Angeles”). They hold a BA in English and Political Science from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, an MA and PhD in Ethnic Studies from UC San Diego, and are currently a Pacific Islander Bruins Rising Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Fellow at UCLA. Their scholarly work looks at the intersections of māhū education, art, performance, and community organizing, and their creative work looks at the intersections of queer indigeneity, grief, kinship, and remembering. Their work has appeared in The Hawaiʻi Review, The Hawaiʻi Pacific Review, and Hūlili: Multidisciplinary Research on Hawaiian Well-Being.
